The SIESsail project – bringing together partners from Slovenia, Italy, Estonia and Serbia – will host an online round table titled “Inclusive Sailing” on 29 January 2026. The event will bring together experts from sport, education and inclusion to explore how sailing can become more accessible, welcoming and meaningful for people with diverse needs and backgrounds. The round table will provide a platform for practical discussion on what inclusion means in sport and how inclusive principles can be applied in sailing. Topics will include the role of coaches and instructors, safety considerations, common barriers to participation, and the adaptations that can support active and meaningful involvement in sailing activities.
The event builds on an online workshop held on 3 December 2025 on designing inclusive educational programmes in sport. The workshop brought together 51 instructors, coaches and representatives of partner organisations and focused on adapting teaching methods, reducing barriers to participation and improving the accessibility of training environments.
The “Inclusive Sailing” round table will be moderated by Maša Pelc from Društvo za kulturo inkluzije. The panel will bring together a Paralympic athlete Živa Lavrinc, inclusion experts Boštjan Koritnik and Neža Adamil and a sailing coach Nejc Gabrenja, combining personal experience with professional expertise and practical knowledge from the field. The discussion will explore the importance of inclusive sport for individuals and communities, the opportunities and challenges of inclusion in sailing, and the practical steps that coaches, clubs and organisations can take to create more supportive environments.
The event is intended for sailing instructors, coaches, sport organisations, inclusion professionals, project stakeholders and anyone interested in making sport more accessible and inclusive.Through the round table, SIESsail aims to encourage dialogue, share practical approaches and strengthen inclusion as a core value in sailing and sport more broadly.
