At the end of March 2026, the European project SIESsail is coming to a close. Over the past year, it has connected sailing organizations from Slovenia (JKL and the Association for Inclusive Culture), Italy (Lega Navale Italiana), Estonia (Aero Purjetajate Liit), and Serbia (Sailing Club Ada). The project, coordinated by the Sailing Club Ljubljana, focused on developing more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable sailing.
From January 2025 to March 2026, the partners carried out a series of activities aimed at strengthening cooperation, exchanging knowledge, and developing new approaches to sailing education. An important part of the project consisted of international meetings and training sessions for coaches in all partner countries, where participants explored different working methods, environments, and compared educational programs across countries, while seeking solutions to improve accessibility in the sport.
As part of the project, guidelines for designing inclusive educational programs were developed. Workshops and discussions were held on the importance of an open sports culture and water protection, along with numerous awareness-raising activities, including during the European Week of Sport. Among the key results of the project are an online platform that will provide broader access to knowledge, new skills acquired by coaches, and various materials and recommendations for work in sailing clubs. The project also fostered closer connections between organizations and laid the groundwork for continued cooperation beyond its completion.
The SIESsail project has sho wn that sailing is not just a sport, but also a space for learning, connection, and environmental responsibility. Through the joint efforts of the partners, the project contributes to the development of a more open, diverse, and sustainability-oriented sailing community.
