Project SIESsail partners have completed a series of European Week of Sport outreach activities across Slovenia, Italy, Serbia and Estonia, using sailing to promote physical activity, inclusion, accessibility and environmental responsibility.
In Slovenia, Sailing Club Ljubljana combined environmental action with public sailing experiences. During the Clean Coast initiative on 20 September, club members collected nearly 20 kilograms of waste, including more than 2,000 cigarette butts, and presented the project to at least 60 people. An Open Sailing Day in Piran on 21 September welcomed 49 participants, while two days of urban sailing activities at the Olympic Festival in Ljubljana on 27 and 28 September engaged more than 300 children and young people.
In Italy, Lega Navale Italiana combined an Open Day, environmental education and an inclusion-focused sailing excursion. The programme reached 165 participants, including 50 Open Day participants, 100 young sailors and instructors at the workshop “The Sea: A Living Body, Not Just a Training Ground”, and 15 participants in the inclusion activity at the Port of Rome.
Ada Sailing Club in Belgrade introduced adults and children to sailing on the Sava River through two Open Sailing Days on 27 and 28 September. The events directly reached 25 participants, all of whom were new to sailing. In Estonia, RS Purjetajate Liit held an Open Sailing Day at Tamula Lake in Võru on 21 September, achieving a direct reach of almost 20 participants despite cold weather limiting on-water activity.
