The European Week of Sport 2025 has officially begun, bringing together organisations, communities and individuals across Europe around a shared goal: encouraging people to be more physically active and to experience the positive impact of sport in everyday life. The European Week of Sport is an important European Union initiative designed to promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles and regular participation in sport. At the same time, it highlights values that are closely connected with the SIESsail project, including accessibility, inclusion, equal opportunities and social cohesion.

For SIESsail, the European Week of Sport provides an ideal opportunity to demonstrate that sailing can be much more than a competitive sport. It can be an accessible, inclusive and engaging activity that brings people together, supports physical and mental well-being, encourages cooperation and strengthens the connection between people and the marine environment. During the European Week of Sport, SIESsail partners are organising a series of awareness-raising and open sailing activities in participating countries. The events are aimed particularly at beginners, children and young people, people with fewer opportunities and members of the general public who may have had little or no previous experience with sailing. Through practical activities, participants will have the opportunity to discover basic sailing skills and learn more about the physical, social and environmental benefits of the sport.
A total of eight events are planned across the partner countries as part of the project’s European Week of Sport activities. By creating welcoming opportunities for people to experience sailing first-hand, the SIESsail project supports the wider European objective of making sport more accessible and encouraging more people to lead active and healthy lives. The activities also reflect another important dimension of the SIESsail project: environmental responsibility. Sailing creates a direct connection with rivers, lakes and the sea, offering an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of protecting aquatic and marine environments while enjoying sport responsibly.
Through its participation in the European Week of Sport 2025, SIESsail is contributing to a broader European movement that promotes sport for everyone, regardless of age, experience or background, while encouraging inclusion, healthy lifestyles, community participation and respect for the environment.
